A new Caribbean takeaway paying tribute to great music and even greater cuisine has opened its doors in Swindon.

Shabba Mudda Pot opened on 11 Rodbourne Road on Friday, March 22, and manager Lisa could not be more excited at the new venture.

“It’s all going good so far and we’re really excited to be here on Rodbourne Road so now it’s just about getting our name out there,” she told the Adver.

“There’s not a lot of authentic Caribbean shops in Swindon anymore so we’re hoping to bring some new flavours to the town."

Shabba Mudda Pot replaces the former Cross Kitchen which was located on the same site but closed last month for unknown reasons.

The new takeaway, which is currently collection only but will be included on delivery apps in the near future, hopes to bring some life back into the premises.

The name Shabba Mudda Pot pays tribute to famous Jamaican musician Shabba Ranks’ late mother, who was known for serving delicious food to her community.

According to the takeaway's chef Ian, the most popular dish so far is of course the famous jerk chicken, but lots of customers have also complimented the Caribbean takeaway’s fish.

“The hope for the future is obviously to expand, but right now we’re really happy with how everything is going and the feedback we've gotten,” said Lisa.

“We chose this location because the local businesses along this street are all really supportive and we get a lot of footfall from people who have gone to other shops and are passing through."
