Work being carried out on the motorway near Swindon may cause traffic issues next week.

National Highways has updated its expected works list to give drivers advance warning of any potential disruption to their journeys.

Two closures will be enforced in the first week of April.

Lanes on the M4 westbound at junction 16 will be closed for electrical works from 8pm on Tuesday, April 2, to Thursday, April 4.

Another section of the westbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 15 and 16 so that technology works can be completed between 8pm on Wednesday, April 3 and 6am on Thursday, April 4.

Both of these closures are expected to add around 10 minutes to motorists’ journeys in this area.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads are not included in their schedule.

For example, a carriageway core and DCP test by Swindon Borough Council will close Devizes Road north-bound from Newport Street roundabout to the traffic lights from 9.30am on April 2 to 2.30pm on April 4.

Utility works will close part of Gipsy Lane from 8am on April 2 to 6pm on April 14.
