The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates Court recently.

CRICKLADE: Magdalena Hajka, of Hitchings, has been sentenced for three violent offences.

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in Swindon on November 11, 2023, and indicated pleas of guilty to intentionally strangling the same person and beating a police officer on the same date.

She received a 26-week prison sentence which has been suspended for two years because, court documents note, she recognises the need to work with probation, is already working with the Nelson's Trust, and a suspended sentence will greatly prevent re-offending

The defendant must carry out up to 20 rehabilitation activity days, pay £150 to each of her two victims and abide by a restraining order that prevents her from contacting the person she strangled.

STRATTON: Nathan Gambling, of Beechcroft Road, has been sentenced for drink driving.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to driving along Dorcan Way on March 9, 2024, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, namely 73 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.

He has been banned from driving for 20 months, fined £400, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £160 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: A 16-year-old has been sentenced for possession of a bladed article in public.

The youth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, indicated a plea of guilty to having a brown-handled combat knife on Flint Hill on February 29, 2024.

The defendant has been referred to a youth offender panel for 11 months, had the weapon forfeited and destroyed, and been ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £22 to fund victim services.

HIGHWORTH: James Whettam, of Kings Avenue, has been sentenced for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

The 21-year-old failed without reasonable excuse to provide a breath sample to police on March 9, 2024, after being suspected of having driven the vehicle in the course of an investigation into whether he had committed an offence.

He has been banned from driving for 17 months, ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, and must also pay £85 in court costs as well as £114 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: A 13-year-old has been sentenced for criminal damage.

The defendant indicated a plea of guilty to causing £50 in damage to a woman’s door in Swindon on March 14, 2024.

The teenager has been ordered to pay £22 in compensation and has been referred to a youth offender panel for four months.

The 41-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to stealing dishwasher tablets worth £89.91 and various other items worth £117 from B&M in Swindon on November 15, 2023.

He must pay the value of the stolen goods back in compensation.

SWINDON: Tobiah Rule, of Fox Hill in Bath, has been sentenced for failing to provide information to police when required.

The 32-year-old changed his plea from guilty to not guilty regarding a charge of failing without reasonable excuse to provide information relating to the driver of a Mercedes Benz in Swindon on April 30, 2023, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

He has been banned from driving for six months, fined £150, and ordered to pay £50 in court costs plus £60 to fund victim services.
