A Thames Valley Police motorcyclist has been left seriously injured after a major crash between Swindon and Marlborough.

The crash, which took place at 1.50pm on Easter Monday (April 1) happened on the B4192 between Aldbourne and Whittonditch in Wiltshire.

No other vehicles were involved, but the police motorcyclist was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and the B4192 remained closed overnight while investigators attended the scene.

The police officer, who is from the Thames Valley district but had been riding in Wiltshire, remains in hospital with serious injuries and his next of kin have been informed.

His identity has not been revealed, but Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the officer is a male from the Thames Valley Police force.

Following the road closure on Easter Monday, the B4192 has now been reopened and traffic has returned to normal.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time and we would ask that their privacy is respected," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
