Video footage taken by an eyewitness has revealed the moment armed police officers dragged a suspected gunman to the floor on the A419 in Swindon.

The incident happened just after midday on Easter Monday (April 1) at the junction between Thamesdown Drive and Cricklade Road.

Armed police officers were immediately dispatched after a member of the public believed that they saw a man with a gun.

Officers then jumped out of their unmarked BMW in the middle of the A419 and pulled a man out of his white van and onto the ground.

The footage shows three armed officers were involved and the suspect did not seem to resist arrest.

"Armed police officers have arrested a man in his 50s following concerns from a member of the public about a man with a suspected handgun," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.

"He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence after his vehicle was stopped on the A419 at 12.45pm today (April 1).

"He is currently in police custody and there is no ongoing threat to the public."
