A top kebab takeaway not only delivers great quality food, but does so reliably time and time again.

The list below shows the most dependable places to get a kebab in Swindon, based on hundreds of reviews.

They all meet certain criteria to ensure a fair comparison.

Firstly, the place must focus mainly on kebabs. Some places sell kebabs on the side with very high ratings.

But if kebab is not a main menu item that most people are ordering, then it is hard to know if the high reviews were earned by the kebab, or an establishment's other food.

Secondly, the establishment must focus on takeaway.

A special mention goes out to Greek Olive, which ranked highest at 4.8 out of more than 1,000 reviews (and sold gyros, but more of that later).

But a tablecloth restaurant does not feel like a fair comparison to a kebab van, nor is it open past 11pm for a late-night treat.

Lastly, it must have at least 100 reviews on Google to make our list/

Delicious Kebab (4.7/5) (173 reviews)

Address: Penhill layby opposite park and ride, Cricklade Road, Swindon SN25 5AY

Price: £6.50 small doner

Delicious by name, delicious by nature, Delicious Kebab came out with the highest score for qualifying kebab shops.

Established in 1992, it is a great achievement for the business which operates out of a lay-by.

Best reviews:

“I stand by my kebab man like I do my barber. Just pulled up here after a really late shift at work to get a chicken and chips as I had no other choice.

“I have a new kebab man now. Best tasting kebab I’ve ever had and the portion for a small was proper generous!

“I always see a queue here when I’m driving home now I know why!”

“Used to drive from Stratton to Lyneham for kebabs as I couldn't find anywhere better, until I find this little gem!

“Rarely see this place without customers out front and I'm not surprised with how good, reasonably priced and fast the food and service is here.”

Gyro World (4.7/5) (147 reviews)

Address: 197a Robourne Road, Swindon, SN2 2AF

Price: £7 chicken gyros wrap

This may be a controversial choice, but I would bet that if you wanted a kebab, a gyros would probably satisfy you. Otherwise, skip this one.

A gyros and a kebab are similar, but a gyros' meat is usually beef, lamb or sometimes pork, while kebabs are usually chicken or beef.

They will also have different spicing owing to gyros being Greek, and kebabs Turkish, and Gyro World is the place to try them.

Best reviews:

“Amazing food. One of the best Greek Gyros I’ve had in the country. For the Swindon food scene, this place is a must try as the favours are unique.

“I recommend the mixed grill for 2 or 4 or the Big One if serving for one and also both the desserts. This is food is good value for money.

“The staff are very friendly and will also help you with picking food from the menu.”

“Amazing Gyros! I did not expect that in UK and specially in Swindon. Great taste!

“There is not difference between the one in Gyros World and the Gyros in Greece or Cyprus!!”

Wickes Kebab & Burger Van (4.5/5) (317 reviews)

Address: 57 Gypsy Lane, Swindon, SN2 8DH

Price: £6 doner

With the largest number of votes out of any Swindon kebab shop, Wickes could arguably be the most reliable choice.

It also does sell other choice, such as breakfast baps, burgers and wraps, but kebabs remain key with the Tiny Special coming highly recommended.

Best reviews:

“Hands down the best kebab locally. I travel past 5 other kebab places to get this.

“They're not stingy with the salad, which is a nice bonus and plenty of meat and sauce. Nice one.”

“I'm absolutely astonished that this place hasn't got a Michelin star.”
