Plans have been announced for new dropped kerbs at two main locations to help wheelchair and mobility scooter users in town.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council announced on Thursday, April 4, that work had officially started on a series of new dropped kerbs in the town.

This comes after a survey of areas that were short of dropped kerbs found that there was a particularly need in Royal Wootton Bassett due to the housing and infrastructure being built a number of years ago.

Members of the town council hope that these new dropped kerbs will make the town more accessible for wheelchair users, mobility scooter users and parents with pushchairs.

"Wiltshire Council will provide 75 per cent of the cost and Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council the remaining 25 per cent (£9,250.91)," said a spokesperson for the town council.

"With an ageing population, the increasing number of mobility scooter users will find this particularly helpful."

The areas of Royal Wootton Bassett which are set to benefit from the new dropped kerbs include:

  • The Rosary and Queens Road area
  • The Lime Kiln, Fairfield and Laburnum Drive area.

Exact locations are yet to be confirmed, but the town council say that it hopes to bid for further dropped kerbs to be put in place in future.
