Traffic heading into Swindon will be affected this weekend as the A419 near Cricklade will remain closed.

The closure, which is affecting the southbound lane of the A419 from Spine Road to Cricklade, is to allow National Highways to carry out 'structure and maintenance' works on the busy road.

But the roadworks have already caused traffic chaos, with buses such as the Stagecoach Service 51 being diverted and drivers being turned around.

The road closed at 8pm on Friday, April 5, and is not expected to reopen until the early hours of Monday, April 8, with traffic monitoring websites reporting that delays are likely throughout the weekend.

There is currently no access past Latton either and traffic has been slow at several points throughout Saturday.

This has put increased pressure on adjoining roads through Ashton Keynes.

"The traffic coming off the 419 and onto the back roads is quite heavy at the moment so I would plan your route carefully," warned one motorist on Facebook.
