A Swindon man accused of assaulting his bedbound father is facing a trial.

Lee Mapstone Junior, 23, of Tudor Walk was due to appear before Swindon Crown Court on May 7 to enter his plea via video link - but did not show up.

It is alleged he broke into a property in Downton Road on February 15 yelling "Give me money" before assaulting his father, Lee Mapstone senior, who is said to have awoken to his son standing on his leg and punching him in the head.

Prosecutor Charles Nightingale said: "The complainant couldn’t get away because he was bedbound and the defendant said ‘I will kill you if you don’t give me money’.

“The father said he had never seen the defendant so angry.”

As a result, he faced charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, attempted robbery and criminal damage.

Mapstone junior's defence lawyer Mark Glendenning had previously told Swindon Magistrates' Court during appearance in February that he says the assault didn't happen and did not enter a plea.

But during the hearing at crown court, an indicated guilty plea was accepted in Mapstone junior's absence and a trial was set for August 5.
