A new meeting hall in the town centre could be on the cards, but a take-away sushi business will have to look for a new premises, in planning applications and decisions.

Town Centre: The rear of a large shop unit in Regent Street in the main shopping area could be turned into a meeting hall and events space if developer A Rodrigues’ plans are approved.

The proposal is to use half of the rear of the New Look fashion store at 55-61 Regent Street for the space. No specific type of meeting or use is specified in Mr Rodrigues’ application.

Swindon Borough Council’s highways officer has asked for more detail on issues of parking and bins: “It appears that all onsite parking spaces is being allocated to the new hall/meeting place; further information is requested regarding the delegation of parking spaces for the site’s two uses.”

Tadpole Garden Village: Discrepancies between existing planning permission for custom-build houses and submitted plans have led to the refusal of a certificate of lawfulness.

Developer D Mace, who lives in Eastleigh in Hampshire had submitted an application for approval for a two-storey three-bed house on one of 14 plots set aside for self-and custom-build houses in Ilett Crescent in the north Swindon expansion development.

But that has been refused with council planners saying: “The proposed development does not comply with the Masterplan or the relevant Plot Passport approved under the outline planning permission.”

Rodbourne: The owner of a takeaway sushi business will have to stop operating it from his domestic kitchen.

Vaderlei Goncalves runs Kadoshi Sushi from his house at 4 Raybrook Crescent and after complaints to Swindon Borough Council that he was using the house for the business he applied to the authority for retrospective planning permission to regularise the use.

His application said: “Use only the kitchen in order to deal with food. The food is prepared on demand, and 80 per cent of the food is sold as a cold plate.

But three neighbours, Central Swindon North and Wiltshire Police all objected to the proposal, mainly on the grounds of increased traffic and the lack of parking in a small, narrow cul-de-sac.

Extensions: Applications have been submitted to construct extensions to houses, or build outbuildings or convert lofts and garages to habitable rooms at: 3 Ash Tree Close, Kingsdown; 18 Pleydell Road, Old Town; 5 Rosemary Close, Haydon Wick; 6 Willow Avenue, Pinehurst; 158 Pinehurst Road, Pinehurst; The Wyncies, Bishopstone; 23 Arley Close, Abbey Meads; 5 The Boulevard, Taw Hill and 11 Walton Close, Park South.

Such plans have been approved for 1 Timoney Place, Wichelstowe; 1 Chilworth Close, Haydon Wick; 20 Winifred Street, Old Town; 121 Sandringham Road, Lawn; 46 Sunnyside Avenue, Kingshill; 2 Castleview Road, Stratton St Margaret; 9 Harlech Close, Toothill; 13 Meares Drive, Shaw; 28 Dudmore Road, Old Walcot; 2 Manor Close Wroughton; 1 Manor Close, Wroughton; 14 Holloway Close, St Andrew; The Bungalow, Chapel Lane, Wanborough; 112 St Austell Way, Swindon; 7 Swallowdale, Covingham; and 10 Greenfield, South Marston.

A proposal for a flat roof box dormer and loft conversion at 18 Pleydell Road in Old Town has been refused a certificate of lawfulness because: ”The resulting roof space (when taking into account the previous 2-storey side extension) would exceed the original roof space by more than 50 cubic metres.”

A plan to turn a garage, in a row of three, that comes with 23 Dorney Road in Redhouse into a home office has been turned down because of the impact on parking for neighbours.
