A shop in Swindon has been closed by police after they seized thousands of pounds worth of illegal vapes and tobacco.

Officers from the Swindon Central South Neighbourhood Policing Team, supported by other neighbourhood officers and partners in Immigration and Trading Standards, visited the Zabka Polski Sklep on Manchester Road on Wednesday.

They seized the illicit products inside the shop and another linked premises.

Altogether, the estimated resale value of the haul is in excess of £30,000.

Police also seized a vehicle and arrested two suspects who have since been bailed pending further investigation.

A closure order has been obtained for the premises which means it can’t open for at least three months.

T/Insp Winter said: “The sale of such products brings anti-social behaviour and crime to the area, and we know that the products themselves are unchecked, often harmful materials or chemicals and if used can be a risk to the health of those using them.

“Such vapes are often used in the exploitation of children and as such we want to clamp down on this type of illicit trading.

“There is also the wider economic impact on local retailers who are working within the confines of the law.”

The operation took place as part of Clear Hold Build, an initiative in Broadgreen tackling organised crime in the area.
