A Labour Parliamentary Candidate from Swindon has gained public support from Keir Starmer in her mission to become South Swindon's MP.

Heidi Alexander kicked off her campaign on Sunday, May 26 at the former Pulse Food Shop in Swindon, where she addressed locals and laid out her top priorities for the area.

In her speech, the Labour candidate said she hopes to cut energy bills, invest in green manufacturing and industries of the future, slash NHS waiting lists, deliver more GP and dentist appointments, increase police presence in Swindon and regenerate the town centre.

Although that may seem like a lot to achieve, Heidi says has no doubt that she can deliver, especially with the full support of Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party, behind her.

Addressing the current state of Swindon, Keir Starmer stated: "This is a chance to change Swindon.

"Over the course of the last four years, we have changed the Labour Party and returned it once more to the service of working people."

"As a Swindon girl born and bred and having moved back home here after Covid, I know that our town is crying out for investment," she explained.

"Our community deserves so much better than the falling living standards, struggling public services and weak economy.

"Over the next few weeks, I will set out my plan to build a town centre we can all be proud of, attract high-quality jobs back to Swindon and improve local NHS services.

"We need to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour, get the knives and the drugs off Swindon's streets and give real opportunities to young people."

Speaking previously about her deep commitment to the town, Heidi said: “Swindon is my home town, I was born here, went to school at what used to be Churchfields and currently live with my family in Walcot.

"Swindon instilled in me the belief that with hard work and determination, I could achieve anything. I want children growing up here today to feel the same way."

At the election on July 4 other candidates so far declared are the sitting Conservative MP Robert Buckland and the Green Party’s Rod Hebden.
