Great Western Hospital has explained scenes that might cause alarm to patients and visitors.
In a Facebook story, the local healthcare setting warned people that a training exercise would run on Wednesday morning.
The exercise was to practise a decontamination scenario, so people in hazmat suits could be spotted outside the Urgent Treatment Centre.
But reassurance has been offered to let the public know there is nothing to worry about.
A spokesperson said: "We're holding a decontamination training exercise today from 9am until 12.30pm outside the Urgent Treatment Centre.
"This is a planned exercise so please do not be alarmed if you are visiting the hospital site today."
