A chief constable said recently ''alcohol is too cheap and to freely available”
This was in the wake of that unfortunate bloke killed by yobs. The killing was tragic.

But I think the opportunist attitude of this policeman is a disgrace. I don’t know if Mr Newlove’s assailants had been drinking, but either way his death shouldn't be used as a excuse to promote a new age of temperance. I thought it would be longer, after the smoking ban before the moral minorities got stuck into drinking.

The chief constable related to the problems of young people drinking. Well, the law already has the power to deal with that. The problem is bigger; it’s one of respect, the lack of it.

My peers and I drank underage, but we did it in secret hiding places. We never did it in the street, giving the finger to anyone disapproving. We knew we were in the wrong. We were afraid our parents would find out. I suspect the types the chief constable is referring to are those whose parents are also trackie bottom wearing, baseball cap sporting types that would laugh in the face of the bobby on the doorstep. In my youth, if a policeman turned up to report on me to my parents, my life would have been over.

Two solutions come to mind. Firstly, instill a fear of getting caught into these yobs. How is another rant. Secondly, the harshest possible punishment for the shops/pubs that sell booze to the underage.

Mr Newlove, the victim, was the same age as me; he did what I would have done. My thoughts are with his family. I hope the scum that murdered him get what they deserve. I they wont though.

The same sentiments apply to the killer of the 11-year-old boy gunned down in Liverpool. If the thought of getting caught doesn’t enter the tiny minds of the scum that would point and use a gun on their peers, there will be no end to the descent into lawlessness on the streets of this country.

Even when we catch and put away these 'people' we don’t send out the right messages. The case of the 15 year old that brutally killed the headmaster at the gates of his school shows this to fine effect. Why after 12 years is there debate about his possible deportation/parole; that conversation shouldn’t be for another 10 years at least!

I believe the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are no more than dangerous animals and should be treated as such. I for one am sick of it.

On the 28th of this month, jumping on the bandwagon, the Cameron thing announced that 24 drinking laws may be repealed by a conservative government and curbs should be put on video games with violent content, violence in films and rap music. Well Rah! Rah! The Tories, that’s right, ban stuff that 99.9% of the population has no ill effects from. Don’t, whatever you do, Mr Cameron, say something that might be controversial like jail them and throw away the keys, or something even worse. No, some of the Guardian readers might not vote for you.
IT’S MORE OF THE SAME AND UNTIL SOMEONE HAS THE GUTS TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING AS A REAL DETERENT, THIS COUNTRY’S GOING DOWN THE PAN !!!
