SINGER songwriter Alistair Ward may dazzle the crowds at Swindon Talent 08 with one of his own compositions.

The 24-year-old from Parks has been singing and writing his own material for years.

At one of the competition’s heats at Wroughton Carnival he won through to the final 15 with a performance of Bon Jovi’s song Always.

But at the grand final later this month he thinks it may do him better to show off his other talents and perform a song he has written himself.

“I really want to do something different from the heats,” he said.

“At the moment I’m working with three or four people on a special acoustic piece that I plan to perform.

“I would like to do one of my own songs just to prove that I’m more than just a singer.

“I may still end up doing a cover of another Bon Jovi song but for now we’re trying a few different things.”

Competing in Talent 08 is nothing new for Alistair. He has been taking part in talent contests over the last few years and recently made it through to another final of a talent search event.

Despite that he still thinks winning Swindon Talent 08 would be quite a feather in his musical cap. He said: “If this contest goes well and I win, well it makes things on the national stage that bit more likely.”

The grand final of Swindon Talent 08 is at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road at 7pm on Saturday, September 20. Tickets are £7.50, £5 for concessions, and available from the box office on 01793 614837.
