SCI-FI fan Teresa Brett was beamed up to London to meet her outer space idol – thanks to the Adver.

Teresa, from Covingham, wrote a letter to the Adver recently appealing for members for her new Star Trek club.

After a few calls from prospective members she got the call of a lifetime.

Producers of the Richard and Judy Show were offering to take her to London for a chance to film an episode of the show with Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner.

Sadly as the pair were in separate rooms she had no chance to Klingon to the small screen legend.

“They got my email address off the internet and contacted me last Tuesday,” she said.

“I had an amazing time filming the show.

“It was one of the biggest thrills of my life and the best part is that they invited me back to the show in the future.

“We were also able to meet a Buddy Holly impersonator who was also on.

“I told the producers that I lead quite a dull life, so for me, although I only shared the stage with William Shatner for about 10 minutes, this was my 15 minutes of fame.”

During filming the pair’s contact was constricted to a brief game in which Mr Shatner had to guess if Teresa was in a choir as a child or not.

After that she eventually got the chance to ask the Canadian a vital question.

Nearing the end of filming Teresa asked the one time Starship Enterprise commander to make Warp Factor nine for Wiltshire to help her launch the Swindon Science Fiction Club.

But the actor said he was not willing to cross the final frontier and come to Swindon.

She said: “It would have been nice to have Mr Shatner come along but we will still have our first meeting and I am extremely excited about the prospects.

“Our first speaker will be a science fiction writer giving a talk.”

She added the group is planning an initial meeting at the Moose Hall, Eastcott Hill, Old Town on February 12 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

The Richard and Judy Show is aired at 6pm today on the Watch channel. Teresa can be contacted at SwindonSciFi@yahoo.com.
