SWINDON residents have finally got to grips with the ice and snow according to Great Western Hospital’s accident and emergency records.
More than 300 people arrived at casualty on Monday and Tuesday suffering with sprains, dislocated joints and fractures.
On Monday 196 residents went to A&E after suffering slips, trips or falls as a result of the snow.
On Tuesday there were 162 awaiting treatment in casualty, 40 with sprains and fractures.
But according to hospital spokeswoman Teri Stevans, lessons had been learnt by yesterday with just three people in casualty due to weather related accidents.
“I think by yesterday people had got used to the weather and had adapted so they were taking adequate precautions.
“We normally have around ten patients a day who need treatment for fractures but the weather has seen a rise in that.
“We’re hopeful the number will continue to fall as people become more aware of the dangers related to ice as we have already seen a drop since yesterday.”
