ICE hockey players have been encouraging people to have their eyes checked in the town centre.

Four Swindon Wildcats players spent much of Saturday helping Specsavers customers to pick out stylish frames, and book them in for eye examinations over the weekend.

The players were also promoting their own eye-catching brand of entertainment, trying to get more fans out to their games at the Link Centre.

Danielle Sharpe, public relations coordinator for Specsavers Opticians, said the shop are proud of their association with the Wildcats.

She said: “Our test schedule is already full over the weekend so the players have done well to book them in.

We support the team and hope this helps bring fans into the arena.

“At the Link Centre we support the Kids’ Zone where we try to raise awareness about child fitness.”

Jamie Hayes, left-winger for the team, said he enjoys meeting the customers.

He said: “I think it is always important to get out into the community meet the fans and encourage those who have not been yet to come out and see us play – it is fun and there’s always loads of action.”
