PEOPLE travelling on the town's roads this afternoon are being warned to take care.
Workers returning home, shoppers and other motorists are being encouraged to be extra cautious while out on the roads following the heavy snowfalls.
The Highways Agency has advised that drivers check local and national weather forecasts before they set out and listen to travel bulletins on the radio.
They should also be equipped with warm clothes, food, water, boots, a torch and spade.
Drivers are also advised to avoid travel unless it is essential.
Pedestrians should also take extra care due to the melted snow and ice on the pavements.
