STEADY snow is predicted to fall through the night leaving hazardous driving conditions for the early morning commute, according to the Met Office.

Below freezing temperatures are expected this evening which will be a lead into snowfall at around midnight which will continue into tomorrow morning hitting motorists on the way to work.

Though the Met Office is predicting around 10cm, but as much as 15 to 20cm at worst in country areas like the Salisbury Plain and the Cotswolds, Swindon is expected to get at least 5cm and outlying and higher areas around the town more.

Roads could also be icy with road temperatures close to freezing, according to a Met Office spokesperson.

The snow will start becoming more sporadic and peter out around lunchtime giving way to a cold clear night and temperatures as low as minus four to six degrees.
