THE WINTRY conditions did not stop homeless people delivering sandwiches as part of an employment scheme.

Residents living in The Salvation Army’s Booth House Social Centre deliver sandwiches to businesses every day.

But yesterday was no different.

Liz Osborne, business project co-ordinator, said: “We go out in all weathers.

“There were a few surprised faces when we turned up and a few people said they thought we wouldn’t be there.”

The aim of the scheme – known as The Sandwich People — is to help service users obtain skills and employment.

Most meals delivered by Swindon Council also reached their destination despite the freeze.

“Despite transport difficulties due to adverse weather, the vast majority of meals on wheels were delivered as normal,” said a Swindon Council spokeswoman.
