THAMESDOWN Transport has said it does not know whether any busses will run tomorrow, after cancelling all services today.

Drivers struggled through the snow, slush and ice to keep services running today, but boss Paul Jenkins sent drivers home at lunchtime amid fears the conditions would worsen.

Thamesdown managing director Mr Jenkins said: “Having reviewed the road conditions across our town route network in Swindon we have decided that we will not be operating any bus services.

“We will have to review the situation in the morning. The forecast for Saturday looks a bit better, but if it ices over during the night it could be worse. We will have to leave the final decision until the morning.

“We shut down services from 7am. We didn’t expect to be able to run any country buses, but we were able to run some services through the morning.

“Obviously there is real uncertainty about the forecasts. Although the main roads were still just about passable the estate roads were completely untreated, covered in snow and ice.

“With the temperatures due to drop again at about 6pm tonight we decided the best thing was to cancel the rest of the days services before they got any worse.”
