Swindon councillor Phil Young said: “What a great line up and there is no doubt that this is the biggest thing to happen in Swindon for years. I am very proud to be hosting such a high profile event and we all now have the chance to show the world what a great place Swindon is.”

To be in with a chance of getting a pair of tickets, you need to register on the Radio 1 website.

Registration opens at 8.15am tomorrow and runs until 10am next Monday.

There are 40,000 tickets available across the weekend. Tickets are free, but last year more than half a million people applied for them and demand is expected to be huge again this year. Each lucky applicant will receive a pair of tickets for either Saturday or Sunday.

The station has warned fans the only way of getting tickets is to register online and not to attempt to buy tickets second-hand through other websites.

Ebay will remove all auctions for Big Weekend tickets.

The BBC uses complicated technology to make sure the distribution of tickets is fair, meaning that only one pair of tickets will be given to each household.

Tickets will be allocated randomly, but weighted in favour of those living in Swindon and the surrounding area, with a smaller amount distributed nationally.

You can register for tickets at anytime before the closing date – it won’t make any difference if you fill out the form within the first five minutes of it opening or 30 minutes before the deadline on Monday.

If you don’t have access to a computer at home, don’t forget you can access the internet at the Central Library and others across the town.

Log on to www.seetickets.com/BBC/BigWeekend/ to register.

Keep an eye on our website throughout the day as more acts are due to be announced...
