PLANS to build 1,800 homes and a university campus on land near Coate Water have been turned down.
John Denham, secretary of state for communities and local government, agreed with a planning inspector's recommendations that planning permission should be refused.
The inspector found the Swindon Gateway Partnership's plan to build a 60 hectare university, 1,800 homes and 23 hectares of employment land failed to comply with certain planning policies.
