A man has appeared before a judge accused of carrying out a serious assault on a woman in a town centre club.

Rafael Cardoso, 23, is said to have wounded Louise Langton with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm. He is charged with carrying out the assault in The Pink Rooms, Victoria Road, on Saturday, October 24.

The defendant had a Portuguese interpreter to help him during the brief appearance at Swindon Crown Court.

No charges were formally put to Cardoso, of Cambria Place, and he did not enter a plea.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to Friday, January 15, and released Cardoso on bail on condition he lives at his home address, does not contact witnesses, observes an 8pm to 7am curfew, reports to the police once a week on a Sunday and stays out of any licensed premises.

Cardoso has already surrendered his passport.
