THERE’LL be plenty of saucy innuendo at the Wyvern Theatre from tonight as Stop Messing About takes to the stage.

The show, which is based on a recording of the radio series of the same name, features Robin Sebastian as Kenneth Williams and India Fisher as Joan Sims.

It has been penned by the show’s original writer Brian Cooke.

“The original warm up man for the show was Kenneth Williams,” he said.

“He would come out and tell pretty much the same jokes every time, and some of them were pretty close to the bone.”

Brian, who along with writing partner Johnny Mortimer was also behind shows such as Man About The House and Robin’s Nest, wrote the show whilst sailing down the Panama Canal.

“I sat in the cabin listening to tapes of the show and making notes,” he said.

“You could see people walking past me and then coming back to do a double take.

“I was sending what I’d done to Michael (Kingsbury, the director) and after two weeks of sailing I’d pretty much done all I could do on the script.

“It’s worked out pretty well, although I do still come along to see it every now and again to make sure it’s still working for the audience.”
