LITERature lovers are being invited to swap notes at an event to mark World Book Day.

It encourages less confident readers to read six books and record their reading in a diary.

Swindon Council’s library service is inviting all those taking part to attend a coffee evening on Thursday from 7pm at the Central Library’s café to talk about their progress.

Staff will be on hand to give advice on what to read next and the library’s 10 new “quick reads” will also be available to borrow.

Quick reads are bite-sized books by bestselling writers and celebrities. They are ideal for regular readers wanting a short, fast read and for those who have lost the reading habit.

The challenge also gives readers the chance to pick up goodies when returning books, including pens, key rings and vouchers for free DVD rentals.

The reading challenge is a national initiative run by the Reading Agency. For details visit www.sixbook challenge.org.uk or www.swindon.gov.uk/ libraries.
