Seven members of a Swindon fitness centre have taken up four huge challenges to be completed all in one day in aid of Sport Relief.

The magnificent seven will be running the equivalent of two marathons, rowing the distance of the Channel on a rowing machine, climbing the equivalent of the Three Peaks Challenge and cycling the distance from London to Paris.

The challengers are either staff or members of the Nuffield Health, Fitness and Wellbeing centre at Greenbridge and they will kick off their challenges at an open day on Friday, March 19 from noon.

The idea of an event for Sports Relief came from Dawn Jolleys, 34, the head of fitness.

She will be running 13.1 miles and cycling 50 miles as her part of the feat.

She is no stranger to pushing herself as she has run the London marathon.

“I thought it would be great for us at Nuffield to make a real difference and because it has a sporting theme it also brings alive our passion for fitness,’’ she said.

“Sport Relief helps people both in this country and worldwide who face many mental challenges in their daily lives.

“We are more fortunate so I thought it would be fitting for us to face some of our own mental challenges for this great cause.’’ Sarah Mackay, 26, from Lechlade, is the commercial manager for Nuffield and a keen cyclist.

“I am doing half the London to Paris cycle on a static bike,” she said.

“We have been training really hard and have our TV monitors and music all set.

“As you can imagine we are all pretty fit but I cycle a lot anyway.’’ Along with the Sport Relief effort Nuffield is holding an open day for people to lend their support to the charity and see what is on offer at the centre.

“People can use our facilities for free when normally it costs £15 per person,” said Sarah.

“They can try out the gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa and have a go at our fitness classes,’’ There will also be a cake sale to help boost funds.

The fitness fans all have their different specialties which is why they came up with the day of different challenges.

Dawn said: “The team work will be fabulous, the workload will be great and what we need is support, support, and probably a massage or two afterwards.”
