WILTSHIRE police have a new telephone number as of today. The new number should be used by people wanting to contact the force for non-emergencies.
But 999 will remain the number people should ring if they need to speak to police in an emergency.
The new number, which is 0845 408 7000, will replace all the existing police station numbers in Wiltshire.
Trained staff will answer the calls at the force's headquarters in Devizes.
Calls will be charged at a local rate.
From now on anyone using the old telephone numbers to contact their local police station will hear a recorded announcement asking them to redial using the new number.
