SWINDON Town's small screen adventure is over after an amicable decision was reached between all parties to pull the plug on a television project.

A six-part, fly-on-the-wall programme fronted by Ron Atkinson was due to be aired on Sky One later in the year but the club and the programme-makers have decided to go their separate ways.

Filming started a month ago but, as Town had yet to sign a contract, they were not yet formally committed.

It means the club loses out on a six-figure sum but deputy chairman Mark Devlin says nothing is more important than the club's fight for League One survival.

It seems production company North One were looking for more access than Town's management team felt comfortable with and following a meeting between all concerned, the cameras have ceased rolling.

Mr Devlin said: "I can confirm the programme has come to a halt.

"We were adamant that we didn't want this to affect the football side of things.

"Some of the access issues were proving difficult and it was important Iffy and his team felt comfortable.

"It's an amicable decision and we have decided to back out.

"Contracts had not been signed and, while the money would obviously have been helpful, it wasn't the sort of figure that I would call future-changing.

"We have had no problems with the production team though and I have the highest regard for Neil Duncanson and his team. Atkinson was a nice guy but it just hasn't worked out.

"If North One find another club then we will discuss the possibility of them using some of the footage in one of the programmes they eventually make."

The project was announced in late December, causing something of a storm after reports in the national media that Atkinson was coming in as a football consultant.

Iffy was less than happy about the way it was handled but after an emergency meeting it was decided to continue.

Reports in one Sunday newspaper said front man Atkinson is in hospital suffering from a leg infection.

Iffy has said he went in with an open mind but the TV people wanted a bit more access than he was able to give in the club's situation.
