Brunel's life and times have been put in the spotlight.

The Dorcan Performing Arts group staged a new production called Top Hat And Rails.

The show, which has been put on thanks to a grant from local pharmaceutical company Patheon, was especially written to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Brunel's birth.

The script was written by professional writer Steven Deproost, from Stroud.

More than 80 cast members, aged from six to 75, worked on the show for weeks, making sure their dancing, singing and acting were all up to the high standards the great engineer would expect.

The play was performed at Dorcan Technology College on Thursday and Friday.

There will also be a special performance during the Building Bridges event at the Wyvern Theatre on July 8.
