A NEW nature reserve has been opened following the removal of litter and graffiti.

The Friends of Darrick and Newstead Woods has been tidying up the area for the past two years.

Conservation organisation Natural England recognised the importance of the site for people and wildlife after the friends group campaigned for it to be designated a local nature reserve.

Judith John works for Bromley’s Countryside Service and is the site manager for the woods.

She said: “Everyone has come together to help out on the site.

“It had a lot of litter and graffiti and people could not appreciate it for what it was and the interesting wildlife it has.”

It was officially opened on June 10 by the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor George Taylor.
