A 29-YEAR-OLD man injured in a hit and run would like to thank the person who rang the emergency services.

Edward Cross was travelling in a minicab when it crashed with a Volkswagen Caddy van on May 22 in Croydon Road, Beckenham.

He spent five days under intensive care at King’s College Hospital in London after suffering brain damage, broken ribs, a facial fracture and bruising.

Mr Cross from Australia said: “It was really nice for someone to call the emergency services.

“I think I owe my life to them.

“If I am able to drop them a letter or ring them it would be great.”

The driver of the van left the scene after the crash, leaving firefighters to cut Mr Cross and the minicab driver who was also injured, out of the silver Toyota Avensis.

Mr Cross added: “I guess I can understand someone could be scared and embarrassed which is why they would run away, but it was pretty gutless because we could have died.”

The recruitment agency manager grew up in Shooters Hill and was captain of Bickley Park Cricket Club between 2004 and 2005.

He had been catching up with friends from the club when the accident happened at around 1am.

Mr Cross was due to fly back to Australia yesterday (June 13).
