A 25-YEAR-OLD man accused of murder has been described in court as a "peacemaker".

Param-Jit Theara, of Ross Way, Eltham, denies murdering 23-year-old Richard Price in Bromley town centre last Halloween.

Murat Karabeyaz, aged 25, of Burford Road, Catford, Michael Liddell, aged 20, from Ealing, and Jagtar Johal, aged 37, of Blyth Road, Bromley, also deny the same charge.

Mr Price, from Bromley, was found with head injuries in an alleyway off Bromley High Street near the Swan & Mitre pub on October 31. He died in hospital on November 3.

Representing Theara, Daffyd Enoch QC told the Old Bailey jury today his client was not responsible for Mr Price's death.

Mr Enoch said: “If ever there was a case for a person being in the wrong place at the wrong time this was it.

“He did not participate in this attack at all.

“You have seen the CCTV and it places Mr Theara in a unique position from the group.

“All he was doing was to try and make peace between the people and get away from the situation.

“Witnesses described the large man, the tall man, and the young man, but they could not describe Mr Theara.

“Why was he the invisible man?”

The court also heard that Theara had only one drink that evening and was keen to get home and look after his disabled father.

Mr Enoch said: “There was no contact blood on him at all and only three blood spots.

“Any blood that was on him was because he was near somebody who was punching Mr Price.”

The court also heard that before the attack Mr Price kissed Liddell’s hand which made him furious and he had to be dragged away by Theara.

The trial continues.
