DETECTIVES are asking for help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault in a town centre shop.

At 2.55pm on Monday, January 10, a 19-year-old woman was in Wilkinsons, in Bridge Street, when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.

On the following day at 9.10am, the woman was walking to work when she saw the same man standing next to a small silver car with the passenger door open, by the bus stop in front of the old Swindon College building.

He waved at the woman and beckoned to her to get into the car, at which point the victim, who was frightened by his actions, ran up Victoria Hill to get away from him.

The man was of of Asian appearance, about 5ft 7in tall, about 30 years old and stocky.

He had a short, full beard which was dark around the sides but greying in the chin area and his hair was short and dark.

While in Wilkinsons, he wore a New York Yankees baseball cap, a beige scarf, a navy blue jacket and beige trousers.

Det Con Becky Smart said: “Although this was not a serious sexual assault, behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and understandably was distressing for the woman involved.

“In order to progress my inquiry, I am appealing for anyone who knows the identity of the man in the CCTV images to contact me.”

Anyone with information about this incident or who knows the identity of the man, pictured right, is asked to contact DC Becky Smart at Gablecross police station on 0845 408 7000.
