LOVE was in the air for youngsters at a primary school in the town.

Pupils from Lainesmead Primary School in Old Walcot dressed in red and invited their loved ones in to school as they tucked in to a meal of heart-shaped treats.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the usual dinner menu was scrapped in favour of heart-shaped pasta, pizzas, shortbread and cookies with truffles in the shape of hearts as well as a ‘sweetheart salad’ consisting of beetroot, tomatoes and red cabbage.

Administration assistant Dinah Beauchamp said the day was a huge success.

“It went very well, it was the first time we have ever done a Valentine’s lunch, but we do termly community lunches for parents, carers or grandparents with a different theme,” she said.

“It was very well received and everyone was very impressed with the heart-shaped food we had, especially the cookies.

“The children love showing their loved ones around the school, they are very proud of it and love to show it off.”

Mum Beckie Wolf was a special guest at the lunch with her three children Jordan, 11, nine-year-old Abigail and seven-year-old Alfie.

She said: “It was really lovely, I absolutely love going along to the school because it is like going in to your child’s world and seeing things through their eyes.

“It is great if you’ve got concerns about how your child is doing at school because you get to see them playing with their friends in the playground.

“The food was brilliant, it is always lovely there and the children love having us there.”

The school plans an Indian lunch next month and an outdoor lunch in June with a Glastonbury festival theme.
