BT ENGINEERS swapped their overalls to become cartoon and movie characters when they shook collection boxes for Cancer Research UK.

The Open Reach engineers dressed as Scooby Doo, Captain Jack Sparrow and Storm Troopers to catch the attention of generous shoppers who made donations at Asda, in West Swindon, on Sunday.

Leader Jamie Reeves, 22, who dressed up as Captain Sparrow said: “We chose Cancer Research UK as a charity, which is the most important one for me, as most people’s lives have been touched by cancer.”

The collection was the third and final one held by the group and they raised £969 in nine hours.

Last month they collected £333 for the charity during an event at Tesco in Ocotal Way and a further £346 at Asda Wal-Mart, in the Orbital Shopping Park.

“We’d like to thank all the customers who shopped in the supermarkets and donated money to the cause,” said Jamie.

The engineers undertook the fundraising as part of a management programme training scheme where they had to raise money for a charity.
