AWARDS have been dished out for the winners of the best kebabs in the town after a competitive showdown.

Marmaris Kebabs, in Devizes Road, has swept up three prestigious titles after a tasting night at the Queensfield Pub, in Upper Stratton, and they were presented with the prize on Friday.

About 80 people judged the dishes from eight different kebab venues and voted Marmaris as the winners of best doner kebab, best chicken kebab and best presentation.

Landlord, John Doyle, said: “It went down really well. There was plenty to go around for everybody and there was chilli sauce coming out of our ears.

“It was blind voting and Marmaris was voted outright. I didn’t expect them to sweep the lot.”

Ali’s Kebab Van, in Cricklade Road, won the title for best chilli sauce.

The competition raised approximately £100, but the organisers have not decided which charity they are going to donate it to yet.

John is also planning to hold another competition to find the best pizza in Swindon and is looking for people to take part.

“It is something different and it has got everbody talking. If anyone wants to take part give us a ring,” he said.
