GENEROUS businesses have helped a fire-hit charity get back on its feet, allowing it to name an official re-opening date.

A fault in the electricity meter at the Swindon Children’s Scrapstore, in Cheney Manor, caused a blaze in January which left the charity homeless.

It has since found new premises in Westmead Industrial Estate and this week Allstore Services Limited and Kleerex Retail Services Group pulled together to install racking there.

They chipped in after project manager Olivia McCann contacted them for help to get back up and running, and she has announced that the charity will re-open to the public on March 1.

Allstore business manager Ron Gurney said: “Following my meeting with Olivia and seeing for myself the work behind the scenes and the effort that is put in by everyone concerned in rebuilding their centre I felt that I wanted to help out.

“I am not involved with charity work and considered that this was an ideal way to use my experience within the storage and materials handling industry to help in a constructive way.”

Swindon Children’s Scrapstore is a registered environmental charity and creative reuse centre that provides reusable materials to local community organisations who take the materials for use in art, craft and creative play activities.

Olivia said: “We are extremely grateful for the help Allstore and Kleerex have given us. All the staff and volunteers would like to thank Ron, Paul, Ian and Dillan for their generosity and support.”
