IRISH eyes were smiling when little Aisling Venables was born to Irish mum Olwyn Menzies at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital.

The tiny bundle of joy weighed in at 8lb 9oz and was delivered by Caesarean section at 12.17am on Tuesday, February 8.

Olwyn, 32, who teaches at Swindon’s Red Oaks Primary School in Redhouse Way, and partner Aaron Venables, who works for the RAF, were overjoyed with the birth of their first child.

And the couple who live in Charlton St Peter, near Pewsey, gave Olywn’s mum Gale a double helping of joy as the arrival of little Aisling came within days of Olwyn’s Dublin-based brother Neil becoming a dad for the first time.

His daughter Orianna was born five days before Aisling’s appearance.

Olwyn said: “My mum became a grandmother twice within a week and she is absolutely thrilled. She has come over to look after me. The care in the hospital was outstanding the midwives were wonderful. Everyone was superb.”

Now Olwyn is adjusting to motherhood and after being used to teaching seven-year-olds is discovering a whole new world of motherhood.

“We chose the name Aisling which is Irish because it was a name we liked.

“Aisling is really good at sleeping, has bluey grey eyes and lots of dark hair. She is absolutely perfect. She is much admired.

“We hope to go and visit her cousin in Ireland in April. It’s a long time since I’ve been home for more than a week so it’ll be a nice break.

“I’m looking forward to everything with Aisling, the outdoor life in the garden and to be able to be with Aisling and be happy.”
