IT’S BILLED as ‘tailor-made’ for women and it’s fair to say The Naked Truth lives up to its name.

This fun and poignant comedy packs a punch, touches hidden human stories and is a call to arms, a sort of rallying cry to women of all ages, shapes, and sizes to think out of the box when it comes to strength against adversity.

For a start the show is set in a pole dancing class and follows the fortunes of five different women as they struggle to conqeur pole dancing to raise awareness and money for a breast cancer charity.

Forget Calendar Girls and Stepping Out and think pole dancing as the five characters reveal a story which is both moving and funny as they tackle issues around breast cancer, marriage and weight but the show is not girly – it was written by Dave Simpson who hits the delicate issues of humanity on the head. Maureen Nolan gives a touching performance as Sarah whose secret is the catalyst for the girls’ decision to perform a charity pole dancing show. Alison Young, as the innocent Faith, teams up with loud Bev, played by Leanne Jones, whose comic timing steals the show; whilst Julie Buckford as Tricia besotted with a boob job and new husband Gareth is a delight.

Claire King’s character Rita is down to earth but has her own sad secret and Gabby played by Michelle Heaton also has a tale to tale. With conversations embracing sex, vibrators and even ice cream - the audience is let into the inner most secrets of this sisterhood, in this finely balanced uplifting comedy. The Naked Truth is at the Wyvern Theatre until Wednesday, February 23 starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £19. The Wyvern Theatre box office: 01793 524481. Gina Hobbs
