VOTERS in Wroughton will have a new polling station for council elections in May.
At Thursday’s full council meeting, councillors voted unanimously for a new polling district for the Wroughton Ward to accommodate a new polling station so voting is more accessible to those in the southern part of the area.
One of the main reasons for the move comes because the Ellendune Centre, which currently serves electors in the area, is now exceeding its capacity.
Coun Eric Shaw (Con, Wroughton and Chiseldon) said the new station at Alexandra House would be ideal.
“The convenience of voting for electors will be greatly improved by the creation of a new polling district which in turn will provide the opportunity for electors to vote nearer to their home,” he said.
“The total number of electors allocated to the Ellendune Centre is in excess of 3,200 which means that a new station needs to be created. The use of Alexandra House creates a more central location for these voters.”
