COUNCILLOR Paul Heaphy is to become the next mayor of Wootton Bassett.
Coun Heaphy, who will take the reins in May, was given unanimous support by the full town council last week.
The father-of-four has served on the council since 2009 and said he wants to use his position to increase community participation.
As a start, he wants to involve schools in choosing the mayoral charity.
He said: “We are pulling all of the schools together to create a community council.
“The community council will choose the mayor’s charity.”
It was also confirmed at the meeting that councillor Mike Leighfield will serve as his deputy for 2011.
