MUMS say the Great Western Hospital has made significant improvements in the care they give during pregnancy.

Last year, the Trust commissioned the Picker Institute to carry out a Maternity Survey in order to see how mothers feel about the service they receive.

The results of the survey show that women feel improvements have been made to the dignity and respect they were given during labour, the practical help given by midwives and the option of a home birth.

It also showed that GWH is one of the top performing Trusts in the country for seeing the same midwife at antenatal check ups and postnatal care.

However, women said that antenatal classes were not available so a DVD virtual tour has been developed to provide antenatal advice for women and will be available online.

Director of nursing and midwifery, Sue Rowley, said: “As a Trust, we are committed to listening to women to understand how they feel about the maternity services we provide so that we know what to be proud of and we know what we need to improve on.

“We are already using these results to develop our services further.”
