GRAFFITI artists came together at the weekend to create an impressive work of art out of an old rusty banger.

Rosanna Wareham, 24, and her friends will be taking part in the Barcelona Bangers competition later this month in which they will trek from Calais to Barcelona in a 660-mile three-day rally.

And with the rules stating that the car they travel in must not be worth any more than £200, Rosanna made a plea to residents across the town in a bid to make her red Rover hatchback a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

“We were intending on leaving the car in Barcelona, but it looks so good I am going to bring it back with me,” said Rosanna, of Kingshill.

“The graffiti went really well, the car is looking really good.

“It still has a little bit of red space left on it where we might contribute to the art and put our initials on, but it has got a picture of a hippy on one side, mushrooms, flower power – it is brilliant.”

Local artist Matty Coles helped design the pattern for the team, who are known as Fifth Dimension and include Mark Newson, Hannah Barudi and Catherine Thompson.

Rosanna said: “I just let them get on with it really but we did say we didn’t want anything to promote bad language on it.

“We will bring it back and use it for other charity events, I am sure there is a lot more we could do with it yet.”

The group will be racing against 68 other teams on May 20, while taking part in tasks and challenges along the way. They are hoping to raise around £500 for Macmillan and Whizz Kidz.

The graffiti session raised around £60. To sponsor Fifth Dimension, visit www.justgiving.com.teams/ 5thdimension.
