PATRIOTIC dresses and cakes were on display at a post-wedding tea party at the weekend.

Mayor Rex Barnett and wife Sandra were guests of honour at the gathering in the tiny village of Hinton Parva as around 80 residents and a smattering of outsiders gathered in the village hall, and in a gazebo outside.

Red, white and blue dresses were the garments of choice, and mounds of cake were on offer, courtesy of the Women’s Institute.

Mayoress Sandra Barnett said: “Their welcoming spirit was just fantastic. We came in and everyone was so friendly and chatty, and the weather was lovely.

“It was just like an old-fashioned English fete atmosphere. Everyone was discussing the wedding, and the dress, and the kiss. We enjoyed ourselves so much we were the last to go.”

Mayor Rex Barnett said: “The whole of Hinton Parva got together, and a few sneaked in from Bishopstone.

“I think on Friday everyone wanted to see the wedding on TV, and then enjoy themselves the next day. It was great to see such a good community spirit.”
