A MOBILITY store received a golden seal of approval when it was opened by Paralympic champion Anne Dunham.

The five-time gold medal winner, who was awarded an MBE in 2009, cut the ribbon to officially open the Wroughton Mobility Store yesterday.

The store, located in the Ellendune Shopping Centre, Wroughton, supplies a wide range of mobility, hearing and foot car services and products for less-abled residents in the town.

The store had been completely refitted by the stores directors Willie Mcivor and David Jackson in just four weeks.

“Having lived in Wroughton since I was ten I have seen first hand the need for a mobility specialist store in Wroughton,” said David.

“Having to travel in to Swindon is difficult when they have not got the transport.

“I have a disabled child so know exactly what people go through and it is nice to have this shop in the community.”

Anne, who lives in Broad Hinton, won five gold medals with Team GB despite suffering from MS and was happy to open the community asset.

“It is an honour to open the store I think it is a lovely place and it is really good we have somewhere local for people to have easy access to what they need,” she said.

“It is not just a shop but a place for the community.”

Wroughton resident Barbara Hawkins, 76, was the first customer and was presented with flowers by the store’s directors.

“I am so pleased to have this store in Wroughton it was very difficult to get into Swindon for what we wanted,” she said.

“This store has everything you need and the staff are extremely friendly.”
