A CORPORAL in the RAF is set to be thrown out of the services after failing to have his sentence for having child pornography cut.

David Gregory had a number of sickening pictures and movies of children, some as young as four or five years old, being abused.

And the 32-year-old dad, who is based at RAF Lyneham, also had a stash of vile images of women having sex with animals.

Gregory was put on a suspended jail term by magistrates in March after he admitted downloading the material from the internet.

But he launched an appeal against the sentence saying he would be thrown out of the services on June 2 if he received the suspended jail term.

Chris Smyth, defending, urged Swindon Crown Court to impose a ‘high end community order’ instead to allow his client to fight to keep his job in logistics.

Although he was due to be discharged in just over two weeks he said he could challenge the decision, and then appeal, if he was not subject to a jail term.

Judge Euan Ambrose, who sat with two magistrates, said they were ‘sympathetic’ to his plight but threw out his appeal.

He said: “Those in the forces know the consequences if they gain criminal convictions; their jobs will be threatened.”

He had been told that Gregory, who has a previous caution for harassment, was arrested last May in relation to another investigation, which was not proceeded with.

His computer was seized and examined and amongst a vast amount of other pornography they found the child and bestial images.

Philip Warren, prosecuting, said that while the child porn had been deleted, some of the bestial material was still stored on the machine in a way that it could be easily accessed.

Gregory, of Tintagel Close, Toothill, admitted possessing and making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic material.

The charges relate to nine movies and seven pictures of children and four pictures and 13 movies of adult bestiality.

Mr Smyth said his client’s case was that he had accidentally downloaded the child porn in batches of adult pornography, which he was interested in.

He said Gregory had not been aware it was illegal to have the extreme images.

Mr Smyth said that while subject to a suspended sentence his client would be thrown out with nine years left on a 22 year engagement.

The court upheld the 18 week jail term suspended for two years with 18 months of supervision and ordered he pay £130 towards the costs of the appeal.
