A CALL has been made for the local community to rally round to help a family who lost almost all their belongings in a house fire this week.

Mum Donna Brydon and husband Nathian, and their three children, Conrad-Leigh Brydon, five, Kori, four, and three-year-old Demi-Rae were devastated when a fire broke out in an upstairs bedroom on Monday morning.

Fortunately, nobody was in the house in Netherton Close, Park South, at the time the fire started, but Donna, 25, and Kori, a severe asthmatic, were both treated by paramedics at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Now, Drove Children’s Centre, which has been working closely with the family, is appealing to anyone who can donate items to help the family return to their home as soon as possible.

Parent support adviser Jo Sherry said: “The family needs beds and bedding more than anything because at the moment the children’s rooms are just empty, they have nothing.

“They can’t move in until they have something to sleep on.

“I have brought a few toys along to them which we had at the children’s centre to give the children something to do, but they desperately need help with other things like furniture.”

Adver readers have also come to the family’s aid and have offered toys and clothes to the youngsters.

Donna and Nathian have spent the past two days stripping the walls and floors of the house in all the rooms affected by the blaze and are currently living in temporary accommodation in Old Town.

Donna said: “Conrad has been at school, but the two little ones have been helping me strip all the walls.

“We didn’t think Demi’s room would be affected but when we were able to get back in the house, we realised just how bad it was and we have had to completely empty her room too.

“Everything they had is now on the back of a trailer waiting to go to the tip.

“People have been helpful, and it’s nice of them to offer, but it is just the little things you take for granted that you miss, like having a soak in your own bath or sleeping in your own bed.

“We want to get back home as soon as possible, the last couple of days have just been shock but now I am running on adrenaline – if I could spend all day and night at the house clearing it out I would, but I can’t.

“We want their rooms to return to how they were, the boys’ room was a typical boys’ room with football stuff everywhere, and Demi’s had a princess theme.”

Anyone who thinks they have suitable items to be donated to the family, such as boys and girls bedding, beds, wardrobes, clothes and toys, should contact Jo Sherry on 07506 342586.
