A KEEN golfer will be teeing off with the stars after he won a place to play in one of the biggest celeb tournaments in the country.

The Shooting Stars benefit is hosted by Hollywood actor Samuel L Jackson.

Kevin Youd, 53, from Swindon will be walking the fairways with the star of Pulp Fiction this week.

After winning a competition with the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Kevin will play at the famous Wentworth Golf Course in Surrey on Thursday and Friday with 47 other players divided into teams of four.

Each side will be led by celebrity captains including Harry Potter star Rupert Grint; singer Michael Bolton; actors Haley Joel Osment, who starred in The Sixth Sense; Jesse Metcalfe of Desperate Housewives fame and Luke Wilson, who was in Legally Blonde.

“It is unbelievable, I had a look at the website where they had the prices of what it would cost and it was £16,300 for one team of four,” Kevin said.

“I have never played Wentworth, it is a once in a lifetime experience or, for some people, a never in a lifetime so to have this opportunity is amazing.”

Kevin, a team leader at Catalent, who lives in Pasture Close, Raybrook Park, will be joined by fellow competition winner Andy South, a representative from Virgin and a celebrity will captain the team – which could be Ryder Cup winning captain Colin Montgomerie.

“I don’t mind which celebrity I play with but if I could pick one I would really like to play with Colin Montgomerie because then there is a chance of winning.

“It is going to be a couple of long days but with the adrenaline I think it is going to be really good.”

As well as playing two rounds of golf Kevin will be given the full VIP treatment. He will stay in a five star hotel before a pairing dinner at luxury goods store Aspreys in London tomorrow and a closing ball and auction held at the Royal Courts of Justice on Friday.

The tournament will donate all proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, a charity that grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Host Samuel said: “Make-A-Wish Foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and I am pleased to confirm that proceeds will help grant the wishes of children fighting a life-limiting conditions.

“I am looking forward to taking part in the event where we will all be trying to raise as much money as possible.”
